Asbestos Fence Removal

Till 1987, asbestos was widely utilised in construction materials. Fibres of asbestos can be found in a variety of items, including:
• The external wall coating
• Roofing, shingles, and siding
• Fencing
• Thermal boards around the fireplaces
• Wood-burning stove gaskets
• Paints with a textured finish
• Base material for flooring/tiles
• Pipes for water or flue gases
• Pipes and heater insulation

Importance of asbestos removal
Asbestos is widespread in the atmosphere, so we are all susceptible to a low amount daily. Nevertheless, this is extremely unlikely to result in asbestos-related diseases. Asbestos cement products that have not been disrupted, such as asbestos fences, do not represent a health danger since the fibres are held together in a solid cement matrix. Fibres may be released into the air if the material is cracked or stirred. If asbestos is not properly removed, it can pose a serious threat to your health.

A comprehensive microscopic investigation is necessary to identify if the materials contain asbestos. However, the laboratory where the test will be conducted should be licenced by the National Association of Testing Authorities Australia.

We follow all kinds of safety protocols for safe and efficient asbestos removal
Renovators are recommended to hire licenced professionals to assist them in removing and disposing of asbestos since particular safety protocols need to be followed, which include:
• Wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as a P1 or P2 respirator, disposable coveralls, safety goggles, and disposable gloves
• Avoiding airborne dust, the asbestos cement should be sprayed lightly with water or a PVA (polyvinyl acetate) solution before removing it. When it rains, an Asbestos Cement roof can become slippery.
• Removing the asbestos products gently as excessive force should be avoided. It is essential to use hand tools that aren’t powered.
• The asbestos cement sheets should be laid on polythene (plastic) sheeting that is 0.2mm thick. Slide the sheets together as little as possible to avoid releasing fibres. The material should be wrapped in plastic and tied into bundles.
• Small bits of asbestos cement can be gathered in 0.2mm thick, high-duty polythene bags. Bags should be loaded to a maximum of 50% capacity.
• The phrase “Caution Asbestos” should be labelled or marked on the bundles in at least 40mm (4cm) high letters.
• Using a damp mop or a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter to clear up any leftover debris, usage of a vacuum cleaner designed for home use only
• Lastly, asbestos-containing materials should be disposed of at a landfill site that has been authorised. Before bringing the asbestos in, it is required to call ahead to arrange a reservation and advise the operator on the site that the waste contains asbestos.

Additionally, asbestos-containing materials need to be separated from other components by wrapping them in heavy-duty plastic sheeting and taping them tight. The asbestos sheeting must be kept damp while being wrapped and the sheeting must be clearly labelled on the front with the words “Caution Asbestos.”

Large quantities of asbestos, as well as friable asbestos such as thermal and acoustic products (such as insulation and lagging), should be removed by a registered asbestos removalist contractor. The Health (Asbestos) Regulations 1992 must be followed by anyone who handles or disposes of asbestos. Environmental health officers in the city are in charge of verifying this.
